Elizabeth Melvin
World Drumming Instructor
Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Elizabeth Melvin brings a lifetime of study and performance in world music to her work as a choir director, song workshop leader, and youth ensemble drum instructor. In 2013 she won an Annie Award for her contribution to the performing arts in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. She is the founding director of two world music community choirs, The Freedom Choir and the Annapolis Morning Song Circle. A graduate of the Community Choir Leadership Training Institute in Victoria, BC, Canada, Elizabeth has led vocal music workshops at Common Ground on the Hill, Tai Sophia, the Creative Alliance of Baltimore, and Unitarian Church of Silver Spring.
In 2004 she gained certification as an instructor in World Music Drumming, designed to bring ensemble drumming to youth. She teaches group drumming and singing to youth in school residencies, community centers, and camps, including 9 years at Creating Communities’ Arts Mentorship Academy.
