Our Teachers – CJ Hartung

CJ Hartung

Voice And Piano

We are so excited to welcome Mr. CJ Hartung to the Naptown Sings and Plays! studio, as an accomplished voice and piano teacher. Christopher J. Hartung is a second year Master of Music candidate in the studio of Dr. Steven Rainbolt. Having received his B.M in Vocal Performance from Peabody as well, Mr.Hartung has been seen in main stage productions every year. Mr. CJ is a double whammy of talent, also as an accomplished pianist. With twenty-two years of piano studies and experience, he has been seen as both a solo pianist and collaborator. He holds 4 national titles with the American Guild of Pianists. Wow!

What makes Mr. CJ so great? He knows how to break down music learning into the basic building blocks for kids, so that lessons feel easy and engaging. We love his use of imagery to help kids visually understand and feel the music. His calm and friendly personality is, of course, a big bonus!

Here’s a little more about Mr. CJ’s accomplishments:

Notable roles at Peabody include Mr. Darcy in the staged world premiere of Pride and Prejudice, Dr. Bartolo and Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro, Belcore in L’Elisir d’Amore, and as a Blues Soloist and Street Singer in MASS.

Outside of Peabody, Mr. Hartung has performed numerous roles and choruses with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Baltimore Concert Opera, Maryland Opera, Young Victorian Theatre Company and Berk’s Opera Company.

Engagements this coming winter and spring include a world premiere of Gladys Smuckler Moskowitz’s Fountain of Youth and as Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana. Additionally, Mr. Hartung has two role premiers of Papageno in Die Zauberflöte and Peter in Hänsel und Gretel in May and June of 2021, with the LAH-SOW. He will also perform the role of Papageno with the Berk’s Opera Company, in August of 2021. Upon graduation, he plans to continue pursuing a performance career while also investing in his interests as a leader at the intersectionality of cultural and generational accessibilities within the arts and society.
